EGCG is found in large proportions in the green tea. It lowers the risk of heart attacks or stroke by preventing the blood from clotting and hence prevents thrombosis. Further, health benefits of green tea include the improvement of good cholesterol (HDL), against the bad cholesterol (LDL). Oolong, black tea and green tea are all products of a plant known as Camellia Sinensis. Green tea however obtains the health benefits from the processing procedures it goes through before it gets to the final consumer. Unlike the other types, makers of green tea simply steam the leaves of the Camellia Sinensis plant thus preserving the active health benefits from oxidizing. The processing procedures for either the oolong or black tea pass both teas through a fermentation chamber, which transform the EGCG, which holds the health benefit in the green tea plant to oxidize thus loosing some of their health benefits. The health benefits of green tea goes beyond it medicinal values. Studies conducted in the fitness sector show that green tea helps people burn more calories. Green tea is thus a recommended drink for dieters. In the 1999 issue of American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, states that the health benefits green tea provides helps men using it with caffeine burn more calories as opposed to those taking caffeine or placebo An additional health benefit of the green tea is its ability to destroy bacteria’s in the body. At such, the green tea acts to prevent tooth decay, food poisoning and other health conditions caused by bacterial infection. Because of the countless health benefits, green tea is perceived as the modern day miracle that fits in a cup.
